LGBTQ Pride is a celebration of community, equality, affirmation, visibility, and respect - as opposed to the stigma and shame that has been historically assigned the LGBTQ community in some cultures/societies. The movement's complex origins are attributed to commemoration and activism surrounding the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Today's celebrations often include parades, marches, rallies, festivals, community events, dance parties and concerts. Rainbows and various flags and symbols are popular symbols of Pride.
